Cumberland,Maryland --- Bernard B. Baker, 83, of Utah Avenue, Cumberland, died Friday, May 30, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 2, 1914, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew B. and Lucy Mae (Huff) Baker. He also was preceded in death by one son, John Andrew Baker; and two granddaughters, Karen Willison and Stacey Kahl.

Mr. Baker attended the Mountain Top Holiness Church. He retired from the B & O Railroad as an engineer. He was a member of Fort Cumberland Lodge No. 211 A.F.& A.M., York Rite, Brotherhood of Railroad Workers, and Eastern Star Cumberland Chapter No. 56.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Martha L. Stafford Baker; two sons, Ronald L. Baker and wife Peggy, Fayetteville, N.C., and William B. Baker and wife Delores, Darnestown; four daughters, Dorothy E. Willison and husband Nelson, Cumberland, Donna R. Kahl and husband George, Frankfort, Ill., Mary E. Kahl and husband John, Cumberland, and Vickie L. Sharp and husband Richard, Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy E. Dealehauser, Cumberland; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Masonic services will be conducted by Fort Cumberland Lodge No. 211 on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser and the Rev. R. W. Eichel Sr. officiating, with Kenny Rice, pianist, and Louie Twigg, soloist.

Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Kahl, Johnny Baker, Keith Dorsey, Ed Jarrett, Tim Lykens, Jeff Wheeler, George Kahl Jr., David Basset, Chuck Evans, and his namesake, Bernard Bruce Baker.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bernard B. Baker to the Shriners Crippled Children Hospital, c/o Ali Ghan Shrine Club, P.O. Box 1416, Cumberland, MD 21502.
