Mrs. J.C. Hogenson Was Prominent in Local Activities
Mrs. Lydia Baker Hogenson, 68, retired Logan school teacher and prominent local church and civic figure, died Wednesday at her home in Salt Lake City after an illness of two months.

A daughter of Jarvis and Rachel Richards Baker, she was born April 6, 1879 in Mendon. She was educated at the Mendon public schools and later at the Brigham Young College and the Utah State Agricultural College.

Serving first as a teacher at the Whittier and then at the Logan High School, Mrs. Hogenson also was active in civic affairs. She was a member of the American Associations of University Women; past chairman of international relations, northern district, Utah Federation of Women's Club, and chairman of the Logan Canyon Girls' Camp Committee. She had served as secretary and treasurer, Logan Council of Parent-Teachers Association and was former vice chairman, Logan Democratic Party.

Mrs. Hogenson also was prominent in activities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having been past president of Logan Tenth and Fourth LDS ward YWMIA and past president of Cache LDS state YWMIA. She was a member of the West Ensign Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers while a resident of Salt Lake City the past five years. She was married to James C. Hogenson, December 24, 1903 in the Logan LDS temple. Mr. Hogenson, a professor at the USAC for more than 30 years, died in 1942. Mrs. Hogenson had resided in Salt Lake City during the past five years.

Surviving are two daughters and one son, Melba Deloris Hogenson, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Helen H. Romney, Columbus; James C. Hogenson, San Antonio; two brothers and two sisters, John D. Baker, Mendon; Simon M. Baker, Idaho; Mrs. Mary B. Stark and Mrs. Emma B. Sorensen, Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Logan Fourth ward chapel. Burial will be in Logan Cemetery.
