She was the wife of the late Don R. Kunz Sr., whom she married in 1940, and after his death the wife of the late Homer C. Baker.
She had been a resident of Kansas City since 1940.
She was a graduate of Mason City High School (Mason City, IA), the Certificate Program in Volunteer Management in the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Colorado (Boulder, CO), and the Supervisory Management Courses designed by American Management Associates (New York City, NY).
She served a term as President of the Women's Auxiliary to Research Hospital and Medical Center and was employed as Director of that hospital's Volunteer Services Division for 21 years until her retirement in 1983.
She served as President of the Kansas City Area Association of Directors of Volunteers. From 1970-1972 she was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Directors of Volunteers of the American Hospital Association and Chairman of its Education Committee. She also was a faculty member for the American Hospital Association Institute.
During her career she was honored as "First Lady of the Day" by radio stations KBEA and KBEY-FM.
She loved to read books and listen to Kansas City jazz.
She is survived by two sisters; Lenore Roark of South Bend, IN, and Sarah Joan Zollatz of Largo, FL; a son, Don Kunz of Wickford, RI; a daughter, Kris Hartwig of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She requested that no funeral be held but instead that family and friends gather for a party in celebration of life.
