John Morris Baker, 82, of Nampa, died Sunday April 24, 2016 in a Nampa hospital. He was born Oct. 23, 1933, at Dadeville, Alabama, to William and Claudie Bell Vines Baker. He was raised and educated in Buttston, Alabama. At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for 26 years during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. In 1978 he retired back to Buttston, Alabama where he opened up Baker Automotive and Junk Yard. John loved to repair and put life back into junked items such as clocks, computers, bicycles and cars. He also loved old time country and western music. John was a very strong willed, logical and very opinionated man who was respected in his community. He always worked hard and helped anyone in need.
John is survived by his ex-wife Dolores "Sookie", children: Theodore John, Sandy and Sarah; 3 grandchildren: Jason, Chris and Theodore; 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lewis (Linda) and Douglas (Rachel) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ed & Allen and a sister, Lucille.
A graveside service under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Apr. 29, in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Boise, ID.
