Former Muncie resident Darrell E. Bainter, 34, Moberly, Mo., died Monday as the result of injuries suffered in a fire in the apartment house in which he was living in Moberly.

Mr. Bainter was born in Louisville, Ky., and came to Muncie as a child to live with his grandfather, George Waid. He attended Riley and Harrison elementary schools. He later returned to Louisville where he graduated from Southern High School. He moved to Moberly 12 years ago to attend Moberly Junior College on a basketball scholarship.

Surviving are his mother, Rosemary Waid Sparks, North Bend, Ohio; his father and stepmother, Harold and Hazel Bainter, Claypool; a sister, Doreen Johnson, Phoenix, Ariz.; three uncles and two aunts.

Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Meeks Mortuary. Calling at the mortuary is an hour before services. Family requests memorials be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
