He was elected Lawrence County Treasurer and he was also elected Lawrence County Sheriff.
He was a member of the First Cristian Church in Lawrenceville, the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by a son, Dr. Robert A. Bailey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Mack Seed and Jane and Ron Fisher; a sister, Geraldine Shadowens; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Elbert A. Bailey were held on January 20, 1990 in the Emmons-Macey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville followed by interment in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
