Bernice Bailey 1927 - 2009 Greenlawn Southwest Chapel services for Bernice Bailey will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009, 9:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Chapel with interment to follow. Pastors Murray Britt, Archie Hawkins and Larry Mimms will officiate. Bernice ws born January 8, 1927 in Cement, Oklahoma to parents, Luther and Minnie Prater. She attended Duncan, Oklahoma High School, Bakersfield Adult School and Bakersfield College where she obtained an AA in Child Development. She then began her career as a Nursing Assistant at Memorial Hospital, where she retired after 25 years. Bernice loved all people, including her fellow members at Fairfax Baptist Church, Women's Bible Study Fellowship, Bakersfield Classic Thunderbird Club and the Vintage Care Club. One of her many hobbies was crocheting for her family. Bernice loved her family very much, and they no doubt will miss her dearly. Family members surviving her are her husband of 66 years Jay; sons, Rodney from San Diego, Mike and wife Barbra from Fresno; daughter, Karla Christensen and husband Dan from Garden Grove; six grandsons, seven great-grandchilden; and one brother, Bill Prater and wife Vida from Branson, MO. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, May 8, from 4-8 p.m., at Greenlawn Southwest.
