Jonathan Bailey married Laura Lyons September 18, 1859 in Marion, Grant County, Wisconsin. They had one child, William J. Bailey, born March 6, 1863 in Grant County, Wisconsin.
Jonathan served in the Civil War in Co E, 25th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, as a corporal. Died from disease.
Research records show that Jonathan died at Helena, Arkansas and was buried in "plot #39 in a cemetery near the Mississippi River". In error I created his memorial in the Helena National Cemetery, where only Confederate soldiers are buried, this being the only cemetery in Phillips County near the river. Jonathan actually was buried there, and later moved to the Mississippi River National Cemetery, Tennessee.
Correction from Wanda Ridge:
On page 250, under "Union Soldiers Interred in Mississippi River National Cemetery, Tenn. " there is this entry:
Plat # 1323
Name: Jonathan Bailey
Rank: Corporal
Company E
25th Infantry Wisconsin
Died Aug 24, 1863
Original place of interment: Helena, Arkansas
