Frederick News-Post, December 10, 2008

Mrs. Norma June Checkley, 83, of Comus, died at her family home on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, surrounded by her husband, her four daughters, and her grandchildren. She leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, G. Robert (Bob) Checkley.

Born Nov. 28, 1925 in Raymond, Neb., she was the beloved daughter of the late Marion L. and Dorothy Springer Bagley.

Surviving besides her husband are her four daughters, Carol Checkley of Comus, Janice Connell (Charlie) of Houston, Texas, Gini Guentner (Bob) of Vernon Hills, Ill., Sharon Skipper (Rick) of Comus; one sister, Lois Boston of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; 11 grandchildren, Katie, Celeste, Charles, Sean, Joshua, Brian, Jonathan, Emily, Nathan, Brandon, and Robbie; and three great-grandchildren, Jadon, Katelyn, and Eli.

Mrs. Checkley was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Sandra Sue and Lauren.

Norma lived a full, joyful, and rich life. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1948 with a bachelor of science in nursing from the College of Nursing. It was at the University of Michigan that she met her husband, Bob.

Norma was a full-time homemaker, mother, and hostess extraordinaire, but she also opened "Knits 'N Bolts," a store that showcased her incredible talent as seamstress. She delighted in making all of her daughters' clothes, including wedding and bridesmaids' dresses, and was a creative crafter in all areas of the arts.

She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.'" She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

As God welcomed her home, He surely said "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matt. 25:21.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Norma's name to the Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter, 11240 Waples Mill Road, Suite 402, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Online condolences may be expressed to the family at Services are private. Arrangements are by Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville.

Near her is buried an infant grandaughter, Sandra Sue Skipper, Memorial# 83752104
