PROVIDENCE, UTAH: Our beloved angel mother passed away at home on the afternoon of February 23, 2006. She was 90 years old.

Born in Franklin, Idaho in 1915 to Sarah Ellen Wardle and Albert Henry Cartwright, she was the sixth child in a family of five boys and two girls. As she often said in later life, she certainly saw a lot of history pass by.

The Cartwright family moved to Richmond, Utah, where she graduated from North Cache Highschool. She worked for the phone company as a telephone operator- "Number please?" - above the old bank in Richmond. Lula met her sweetheart Marcell Baer, a Providence boy, on a blind date. They were married in the Logan LDS temple in January, 1939.

During World War II, while dad was in the South Pacific, she spent her time by her father's side while he listened to the radio for news of the war in England, where members of his family were. After the war, mom and dad lived with her father for a short time before moving to Providence where they spend the rest of their lives, lives filled with goodness and beauty.

All her life, she was an active member of the LDS church and served in various callings until her health began to fail. She was justifiably proud of her extensive study of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lula leaves a legacy of great faith, dedication and single-minded integrity. She filled her life with service to and love for her husband, children, grandchildren and friends in her "club" and neighborhood. She faced challenges with determination and grit, always wanting to do the right thing. She was a passionate cook and passed that love on to her kids. She was a talented seamstress and loved to garden and preserve her produce in the fall. She excelled in art in high school and taught herself to play the piano. Her spirit and her advice will always be with her family.

Mom loved this "valley in the mountains" and was forever grateful for her little spot in the universe. Not a day went by that she didn't express her appreciation for the world around her.

She is survived by her sister Nellie, brother Vic, two children Ellen (Garry) Baker of Draper, Utah, Edward Baer of Providence, five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that she loved deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband Marcell, four brothers and her mother and father. We know they and her Heavenly Father received her joyfully.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 12:00 pm in the Fruitland Acres Ward, 464 North 300 East, Providence. A viewing will be held from 10:30 - 11:45 am at the church. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
