C.P. Baer Called by Death Wednesday

Veteran Merchant Succumbs Quickly

C.P. Baer, prominent Meyersdale businessman, died suddenly late Wednesday afternoon at his home on Broadway. Although he had been ill for some time, his unexpected death came as a complete shock to his family and local residents.

Mr. Baer, along with his son, George C. Baer, operated one of the largest plumbing and heating businesses in Somerset county. The firm used more than 35,000 square feet of floor space for their business located on Center and Clay streets.

Mr. Baer started in the plumbing and heating business about 60 years ago when he was a young man. Later, he was joined by his son, George C., in the business. During the past 30 years, the firm expanded considerably with a modern store and service business. He was a director of Second National Bank.

Born in 1876

Charles Peter Baer was born on Jan. 25, 1876, and was a son of Peter J. and Barbara Hostetler Baer. His wife, Mrs. Maggie Baer, died in 1940.

Surviving are the following children: Miss Pearl Baer, Miss Mabel Baer and George C. Baer, all at home and Mrs. Helen Bowman, wife of R.H. Bowman, North street, Meyersdale. Also surviving is one grandson, Richard Baer Bowman, who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at Price Funeral Home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Horace Huse, pastor of Main Street Brethren church, officiating. Mr. Baer was a member of Main Street Brethren church. Burial will be in Berlin IOOF cemetery.
