Pedestrian Dies In Auto Accident Saturday
Paul E. Bacon,61,was dead on arrival at a local hospital from injuries sustained in an auto-tractor accident on U.S. Highway 301, south of Claxton early Saturday morning.
Details of the 1:45 a.m. accident , which occurred approximately six miles south of Claxton, were not yet available Saturday afternoon.
A spokesman for Reidsville Barracks of the Georgia State Patrol said that Bacon was a pedestrian who was evidently hit by one of the vehicles in the course of the accident.
He was a native of Tattnall County, a member of Beard's Creek Primitive Baptist Church, a World War II veteran, and a farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty S. Bacon of Glennville; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Haire and Mrs. Becky Burkhalter, both of Claxton; a son, Joey Bacon of Glennville; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Durrence, Mrs. Claudine Bland and Mrs. Donna Kate Brannen, all of Glennville; a brother, W.A. Bacon of Glennville; three half-sisters, Mrs. Francis Bouy and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Mitchell, both of Savannah and Mrs. Willene Brewton of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.; two half-brothers, Hollis and Benny Bacon, both of Savannah; his step-mother, Mrs. Paul Cowart of Savannah; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Beard's Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Rimes Mortuary of Glennville was in charge.
