Alvin was the son of Enoch and Mahala Kays Back, the husband of Ora Pearl Rigsby Back and the father of Daisy, Charles Dorman, Thomas Jennings, Bertha and Arthur Back. Mr. Back earned his living by working as a carpenter. He passed away from the effects of chronic nephritis and chronic myocarditis.

Sometime between 1900 and 1905, he and his family left Kentucky, and moved over the Ohio River, to Cincinnati. By 1920 they were living at 1948 Elm Avenue, in Norwood. By 1930, they wre living at 2471 Eastern Avenue. Around 1937, Alvin and his wife Ora moved out to the country, in Clermont County, and lived on Sugar Camp Road.
