He was born July 1, 1952, in Peoria, Ill., to Robert and Opal Heiniger Bachman. He married Patricia Nelson in Peoria, Ill., on Feb. 25, 1984. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother of Washington, Ill.; son, Justin (Darcy Hansen) Bachman of Brooklyn, N.Y.; daughter, Robin (Nicholas) Szewczyk of Houston, Texas; and one niece, Raquel Ontiveros of San Francisco, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Rita Bachman Ontiveros.
John began his ministry as the "Voice of the Night" on All Saints Day in 1983 at WCIC-FM. After a wonderful ministry at WCIC, John entered Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, to become an ordained Lutheran pastor.
He served both his vicarage and his first pastorate at Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria. Pastor John enjoyed all aspects of ministry but had a passion for education and pastoral care. John completed his earthly ministry at St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Ill.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
