Alvera Aylsworth, 88, of La Crosse died at Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003. She was born in Onalaska on July 15, 1914, to James and Julia (Munson) Anderson. She married Norman Aylsworth in Decorah, Iowa, on Oct. 9, 1934, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1984.

Alvera was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a special aunt, caring friend and a wonderful human being. Her faith in God was constant and a great source of strength.

Her biggest joy was spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed writing letters to those far away. Cooking was one of her talents, as well as sewing and knitting. Football season had her following the Green Bay Packers and baseball season the Brewers and Cubs. She was most proud of her grandson, Chris, and his golf achievements.

Within her seven-year residence at Bethany St. Joseph, she faithfully attended the weekly Masses and rosary. She also participated in many of their activities, including one of her favorites, bingo.

She always thought of others, and truly, to know her was to love her. Her life definitely touched many.

She is survived by a daughter, Georgia (Steven) Burmeister of La Crosse; grandson, Christopher of Madison; two sisters-in-law, Luciel Marcou and Verna Aylsworth, both of La Crosse; a half brother, Richard (Shirley) Anderson of Manchester, Conn.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and many good friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a half brother, James.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James the Less Catholic Church, La Crosse. The Rev. Roger Scheckel will officiate and burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette St., on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
