Services for Bert Aylsworth, 82, of Wadena, were at 11 a.m. Monday June 4, at the Wadena Community Presbyterian Church. Pastor Tom Bond officiated. Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Wadena Cemetery.
Mr. Aylsworth died Thursday evening, May 31, at the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, after a lengthy illness. Memorials will be given in his name to the Wadena First Responders.
Survivors include his Wife Hazel Aylsworth of Wadena, a daughter Gloria (Pac) Ashby of Des Moines, 3 sons-Gene (Gloria) Aylsworth of Wadena, Doug (Rhonda) Aylsworth of Wadena, and David (Becky) Aylsworth of Wadena, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 sisters-Anne Newton of Independence, Delia Cassett of Davenport, and Ella Rehurek of Endwell,N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson (Daniel Aylsworth), 2 brothers (Warner Aylsworth and William Aylsworth), 4 sisters (Katherine / Blaschke, Winnifred Aylsworth) Marybelle Aylsworth, and Dorothy Aylsworth).
Albert Chauncey Aylsworth was born on July 28, 1918 at Hawkeye, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Charles and Anna (Minger) Aylsworth. In 1928 his family moved back to Iowa. He married Hazel D. Chapman January 11, 1939 at the Methodist parsonage in Arlington. Bert spent his early years working on farms in the Wadena area and also at
Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo. In 1947 he joined his father in the housemoving business and went into business for himself in 1952. He worked in the housemoving business with his sons until his retirement. His reputation as a housemover was known throughout the state.
Bert was one of the original founders of the Iowa House Movers Association, a member of the Wadena Community Presbyterian Church, and has served as a councilman on the Wadena Town Council, He has been a resident of the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, Iowa since March 31, 1996.
