Amanda Louise Ayers, age 12, a student at Toano Middle School, died on Monday, February 11, 2008, at CHKD in Norfolk from complications of the flu.
Preceded in death by her grandfathers, Robert D. Ayers Jr. and Robert D. Ayers Sr., she is survived by her mother, Rebecca Strickland Newberry (Glen) of Newport News, and sisters, Danielle and Victoria, and her father, Robert D. Ayers III (Melissa) of Norge, and her brother, Josh. Additional survivors include her maternal grandparents, Venita Strickland of North Carolina and Gernie France of Smithfield; and her paternal grandparents, Cindy Ayers of Hampton, Ada and Elton Fauber of Norge, Pat and Charles Apperson of Williamsburg; and numerous loving uncles, aunts and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday February 15, 2008, at Central United Methodist Church in Hampton with the Rev. Jim Rodden. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
