Mr. William Franklin Aycock, 87, died Thursday (May 12, 2011) at Hospice House Satilla following a short illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Ware County and had been a resident of Bayview Nursing Home for the past year. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Aycock; his parents, William Murphy Aycock and Margaret "Maggie" Grice Aycock; and two sisters, Katie Gibbs and Addie Mae Hendrix.

He was a member of Carswell Ave. Christian Church and was retired from Pet Dairy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a machine gunner and toured Africia, Sicily, Italy, Corsica, France and Belgium from 1943 until 1945.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Smith (husband Rusty) of Waycross, Nancy Johnson (husband Danny) of Brunswick; three sisters, Nettie Ammons and Ruby Johnson both of Waycross, June Crews of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Rev. Donald Aycock of Waycross; his grandchildren, David and Mary King, Jennifer and Matt Farmer, Andy Johnson, Holly and Dave Mock, Buck and Julie Smith, Christi and Brian Morneault; and nine great grandchildren, Chase and Morgan Farmer, Charles and Emily King, Austin and Katelyn Johnson, Emma Smith, Cuyler and Colby Morneault.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (May 15, 2011) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at funeral home Saturday night from 6 until 8. Employees of Bayview Nursing Home are requested to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 1:40 p.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.
