Manuel Vargas Ayala, 58, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 6, 1953 in Las Cruces to Saturnino and Concepcion Vargas Ayala.

Mr. Ayala retired as a Correctional Officer from the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Ayala of the family home; one son, Manuel Ayala, Jr., and wife, Sofia; two daughters, Jacqueline Jeanette Martinez and husband, Justin and Kimberly Brown and husband, Richard all of Las Cruces; one brother, Alejandro Ayala. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, Vicente Martinez, Regina, Reymi and David Brown, Estevan, Clara, Chris, Miguel, Vanessa, Selena and Ismael Ayala, as well as his mother-in-law, Bertha C. Peña, two special cousins, Mary Crume and Higinio Vargas, and lifetime family friend, Rebecca Castillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Juanita Ayala, grandfather, Vicente Vargas and an uncle, Ray Vargas.

Visitation for Mr. Ayala will be at Baca's Chapel of Prayer, where the Prayer Vigil will be. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

Serving as casket bearers will be Manuel Ayala, Jr., Justin Martinez, Richard Brown, Estevan Ayala, Manuel Vargas and Eddie Vargas. Honorary bearers will be Joseph Anthony Lara, Alfred Villareal, Tony Diaz, Bill Cogdil, Robert Bronson, Kenny Maese, Johnny Castillo and Victor Castillo.Services entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces.
