SANDERSVILLE - Carlos Steed Avant, 51, of Sandersville died Wednesday morning after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Sandersville. The Rev. Thomas Roberson of Macon will officiate, assisted by the Rev. George Deadwyler. Burial will be in Brownwood Cemetery.
Mr. Avant was a service station operator and had lived in Sandersville seven years, moving into town after life-long residence in Washington County.
He was the son of Carlos A. Avant and Mrs. Sally Wheeler Avant. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church at Deepstep, and was a veteran of the Army Corps of Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, the former Bennie Claude Pittman; two sons, John Melson Grice, Sandersville, and Robert Benjamin Grice, U.S. Navy; five sisters, Mrs. J.W. Brown and Mrs. Robert Strange, Sandersville, Mrs. Charles Alexander, Charlotte, NC, Mrs. Clifford Ingram, Gainesville, and Mrs. Weston Holmes, Macon; one brother, DeWitt Avant, Sandersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Lang's Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
