HATTERAS - Edward Perry Austin, 92, of Hatteras, died Thursday morning, Dec. 24, 1981 in Albemarle Hospital following a short illness.
A native of Hatteras, he was the son of the late Hiram and Elizabeth Stowe Austin and the husband of Mrs. Mildred Gaskins Austin.
He was a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church, Woodmen of the World and the Hatteras Civic Club where he served 35 years as a cook for their fish frys. He was an Army veteran of World War I.
Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Murrell Howell of Hatteras, Mrs. Elid Staggs of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Roberta Schapp of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, Edward P. Austin, Jr. of Hatteras; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Hatteras United Methodist Church by Rev. Fred R. Roberts, pastor, with burial following in the family cemetery. Twiford's Island Chapel in Hatteras was in charge.
