Birth: Sep. 7, 1895
Death: Jul. 10, 1974

Ruby Ethel Austin Easterlin was born on September 7, 1895 on a farm near Cameron, S.C. to Martin David Austin and Fannie Agnes Jones. She married Claud David Easterlin on January 16, 1916 and they moved to the Hill's old place, approximately a half mile from Claud's dad (Julius Carn Easterling) which was a farm a few miles outside of Bowman, S.C. on the road know today as Highway 210. Claud's dad gave them the 35 acres which is also close to the Ebenzer community.

Ruby and Claud had four children: Julius Clifon Easterling, Sr.; Claud Dewey Easterling; Alva Raymond Easterling, Sr.; and Ruby Ethel Easterling.

Ruby was a quiet lady and very religious. She and Claud attended the Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and played the organ by ear. Later, she attended the Bowman Southern Methodist Church.

Ruby was a good cook, made her own Lye soap, fig and pickel preserves and did a lot of canning. She was a very good quilter and made quilts for her children and grand children. She was also quite a gardener.

Claud died in 1948 when Ruby was 52. For a few years she continued to live on the farm. In the midfifites, her daughter Ethel bought a house on the Charleston Highway between Bowman and Orangeburg. Ruby bought a house trailer and put it on Ethel's land. About this time she also started working as a care giver staying with some of her sisters and family friends.

At the time of her death on July 10, 1974, she was living in a trailer on her son Cliff's land near her old farm.
