She was a daughter of the late Elias A. Collins and Ida Mae Brown Collins.
Mrs. Austin was a graduate of Ridgeville High School. She was vice president of Austin Construction Company and was an active member of Ridgeville Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer.
She was the wife of James Kirk Austin and surviving, in addition to him, are sons: Hugh E. Chinners, Jr. of St. George, Charles E. Chinners of Ridgeville, stepchildren Jimmy Austin of Ridgeville; Wendy Sketoe of Summerville, brothers Wrentol Collins of Augusta, GA, Henry Collins of Edisto Island, Durwood Collins of Edisto Beach, and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh E. Chinners, Sr.
