...Claib B. Atterberry, age 81, of LaPlata, passed away Sunday evening (September 8, 1991) at Grim-Smith Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri.
...He was born January 12, 1910, in Monroe County, Missouri, the son of the Rev. Ira Glenn and Jessie Mildred (Acuff) Atterberry. On March 26, 1932, in LaPlata, Missouri, he married Ruth Bragg, who survives.
...Also surviving are one son, Jack Atterberry of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister, Mildred Hickman of Oregon; and one grandson, Davis Atterberry of Jefferson City, Missouri.
...He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Atterberry.
...Mr. Atterberry served in the united States Army Air Corps during World war II as an Investigator, Legal Board and Claims.
...Mr. Atterberry was employed by Mid-American Pipeline Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma for twenty years as a right of way and claims representative. He waas previously employed in the same copacity with the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department, Macon, Missouri.
...He had lived in LaPlata since 1945 and was active in many community activities. He was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America for many years, serving on the board of the regional council. He served as a committee chairman for the LaPlata Centennial Committee in 1955. Mr. Atterberry was a leader in the Illinois Bend Christian Church. He also belonged to the LaPlata Lions Club and served on the LaPlata Planning and Zoning Commission and the Macon County Democratic Committee. He was immediate Past Commander of Reynolds-Martin Post #282, american Legion, LaPlata, and also previously served as Commander for several terms.
...Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (September 11, 1991) at the Illinois Bend Christian Church witht the Rev. Dewayne Wellborn of Kirksville officiating. Music will be provided by John Rohrbough. Burial will be in the LaPlata Cemetery with military rites by the Reymolds-Martin Post #282, American Legion, LaPlata.
...Pallbearers will be member of the Reynolds-Martin Post #282 of the American Legion, LaPlata.
...Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Farr, Teddy Wait, Dale Benner, Sharon Gramling, Romaine Turner, Bob Lile, Raymond Gross, J.R. Tuggle, Everett Ruby, Donald Travis, La Verne Burris, Bob Whittington, and Jeff Mock.
...No visitation will be held. Those who wish to pay their respects to the family may do so at 702 East Bartlett from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening (September 10, 1991).
...The family suggests memorials be made to either the Illinois Bend Christian Church or Reynolds-Martin Post #282 of the American Legion, LaPlata. Memorials may be sent to or left at the Travis Funeral Chapel, LaPlata, Missouri (bio by: Farm Girl from Mo.)
