Lt. Bucky Attaway, age 41, of Villa Rica passed away suddenly Monday, May 14, 2012
Lt. Attaway was born March 25, 1971, in Cobb County, the son of Rodney and Brenda Strawn Attaway. He was a 1989 graduate of Lithia Springs High School and began his career with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office the same year. Over the next 23 years he served the citizens of Douglas County admirably as a public safety officer. Bucky was named employee of the month in May of 1998 and December of 2010. He was Officer of the Year in 1996 and earned a Sheriff's Commendation in 2001. He was named Detention Officer of the Year in 2003 and promoted to Lieutenant the same year. He completed The Public Safety Leadership Institute at Mercer University in 2006. Bucky held numerous records for his marksmanship and physical ability to perform during training events and public safety competitions. Bucky completed well over a 1,000 hours of training and continuing education which made him a valuable member of the Douglas County S.E.R.T. Team.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Karen Webb Attaway; children, Breanne Attaway, Racheal Attaway and Blake Attaway, all of Villa Rica; parents, Rodney and Brenda Strawn Attaway, Douglasville; sister and brother-in-law, Kelly and Mark Ashley, Hiram, sister-in-law, Monica Webb, Villa Rica, brother-in-law, Greg Webb, Villa Rica; mother-in-law, Alberta Webb, Villa Rica; and several nieces and nephews also survive
Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 2 p.m. from Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating. Music will be provided by Heather Camp.
The body will lie in the church from 12 p.m. until the funeral service hour.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 until 9 p.m.
Interment will follow the service in West Georgia Memorial Park with Law Enforcement Honors provided by The Douglas County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Inv. Randy Folsom, Inv. Shane Kirby, Sgt. Dwayne Taylor, Lt. Bruce Ferguson, and Lt. Billy Lashley.
In lieu of flowers the family request donation be made to a trust fund for Bucky's children Jennifer Ferguson c/o The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, 6856 Broad St., Douglasville, GA 30134
