He was a member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro, N.C. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Kilwinning Masonic Lodge #64 and the Oasis Shrine where he had served as president. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years Juanita Moore Atkinson.
