He was born March 4, 1939 in Wilmington, NC, the son of the late Curtis Henry Atkinson and Laura Agnes Cottle Atkinson.
Mr. Atkinson served his country honorably in the United Stated Navy aboard the USS Kittyhawk and was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are three sons, Mark Atkinson (Jennifer) and their children, Lindsey and Kyle of Mississippi, Geoffrey Wayne Atkinson (Teresa) and their son, Nicholas of Mississippi, and Charles Curtis Atkinson and his daughter, Chelsea of Arkansas; a sister, Awilda Smith (Leon) of Castle Hayne, NC; and his long time friend, Nancy Strickland of Castle Hayne, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in the Chapel of Wrightsboro Baptist Church by Rev. A. Keith Hollar. Interment will follow in Wrightsboro Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM until time of the service Wednesday at the church.
