Harry C. Atkinson was the second of three children born to John J. and Ella (Clark) Atkinson. During his short life he and his cousin William S. Webb of Cameron were the best of friends. They were born just six weeks apart in 1879. His Grandfather Stephen Atkinson and Great Grandfathers Charles and James Atkinson were among some of the earliest settlers of Monroe County, Ohio. His grandfather Stephen was a preacher and farmer, owned and farmed several hundred acres bordering Sunfish Creek and Atkinson Run.
Harry's father served in the American Civil War in Co. E, 116 Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Harry is the grandson of Robinson Ross, veteran of the War of 1812, Grandson of Charles and James Atkinson, veterans of the American Revolution and Great Grandson of Cornelius Atkinson veteran of the American Revolution and French Indian Wars.
