Lois Atkins Spencer
Greenville - Funeral services for Lois Atkins Spencer, age 81, of Greenville, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Coker-Mathews Chapel. Graveside services for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Fannin County. Rev. Riley Hamilton officiated. Mrs. Spencer passed away April 26, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital in Greenville.
She was born on December 13, 1919, in Bonham, to Jesse Lee Atkins and Margaret Rebecca Sellars Atkins. She married John Paul Spencer on April 2, 1944. Mrs. Spencer was a former Assistant County Superintendent for Fannin County Schools. She retired in 1986 from the Texas Department of Human Services. Mrs. Spencer was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Bonham High School.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Russell Spivey of Greenville; grandsons, Matthew Spencer Spivey and Clay Austin Spivey, both of Greenville, brother and sister-in-law, John Robert and Geneva Atkins of Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1990; brother, Gilson Lee Atkins; and sister, Pearl Arie.
The family received friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Highland Terrace Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
