Adosinda de Asturias
Birth: c. 725
Death: c. 785

Asturian Royalty. Born the daughter of Alfonso I and his wife, Ermesinda, daughter of the first Asturian king. She married Silo who succeeded the throne probably because he was related by marriage to both of the previous ruling families, but there is scholarly controversy about the mode of succession, some favoring the idea of matrilineal succession The King and Queen moved the capitol of the kingdom to the centrally located Pravia. She and Silo had no living heir, and upon her husband's death, Adosinda engineered the succession of her nephew, Alfonso as successor. The youth was named chancellor, but the throne was then seized by Mauregato, Adosinda's half brother, the son of her father and a Moorish concubine. In November, 783 Adosinda was exiled to the monastery of San Juan de Pravia, where she lived out the rest of her life. (bio by: Iola)
