County's Oldest Resident Dies
Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Nov. 27, for Miss Mahaleth Aston, Chickasaw county's oldest white resident, who died at 8 pm, Saturday, at Houlka. She was 99 years, and 10 months old.
The Rev. T E Gregory, Methodist pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. J W Kitchens, pastor of the Baptist Church. Interment was in Friendship Cemetery.
Miss Aston had been confined at home for a number of years, due to infirmities of age. She was a devout Presbyterian, having united early in life.
Miss Aston was born in the state of Alabama, Jan. 26, 1850, and at the age of three, came to Chickasaw county with her parents to make her home. For the past 37 years she had lived with her nephew, Neely Aston, Houlka. she leaves 26 nephews and nieces.
