Allan was born in Twin Falls and lived there all of his life until he enlisted in the Marines.
Arriving in Vietnam 6 July 1969, Allan was assiged to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion,
4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Golf Company was in a night defensive postion, 11 kilometers north of Cau La Airfield, when hostile troops launched a mortar fire attack against Golf Company. Allan died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the body from hostile mortar fire.
