PIONEER WOMAN TAKEN BY DEATH ON WAY HOME
Miss Laura Asher, pioneer Lafayette resident, died suddenly of a heart attack at 10 o'clock Thursday morning [Aug 2, 1934] while on the way to her home at 402 South Sixth street. Feeling ill, she went onto a porch at 213 South Fifth street, where she died while seated in a chair. Coroner A.J. Bauer investigated.
Born eighty-one years ago this month, she spent her entire life in the old homestead at Sixth and Romig streets, where she lived with a brother, William C. Asher. Her parents were Edward and Harriet (Bartmess) Asher. Her brother is the only near relative surviving, there being several cousins, including William Horn of Indianapolis, Flora Horn of Lafayette, and William Bartmess of Dayton. Miss Asher was a member of St. John's Episcopal church.
The body was removed to the Rogers & Smith funeral home, where friends may call after 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock with burial at Greenbush cemetery; the Rev. T.G. Williams will officiate.
