Frances L. Ashdown, 84, of Plano, Texas,
formerly of Port Byron, died Wednesday,
Sept. 8, 1999, at Columbia Hospital, Plano.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Bethel
Baptist Church, Port Byron, where she was a
member. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery,
Port Byron. Visitation will be on Sunday from
2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gibson Funeral
Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to
the church or the Alzheimer Foundation.
The former Frances Floyd was born Jan. 1, 1915,
in White Mills, Ky., the daughter of Vandorn
and Orilla Jaggers Floyd. She married Lester
Ashdown on April 9, 1939, in Coe Township.
He preceded her in death on June 19, 1985.
She was a teacher having taught at Riverdale
Schools for 16 years and at the former
Pleasant Point School for two years.
She had been active in many community
activities and organizations. Mrs. Ashdown
enjoyed gardening and traveling, but her
first love was teaching.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley Mossman,
Houston, Texas, and Beth Ashdown, Plano;
a son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Margaret
Ashdown, Albers, Ill.; grandchildren,
Kristin Fromme, Karen Ashdown, Dana Paulsen,
Brent Brinkmeier, Megan Mossman, Jennifer
Archer and Jeremyah Stagg; great-grandchildren, Christopher Helton, Brittany Fromme and
Cole Brinkmeier; a sister, Virginia Anderson,
Orion; and a brother, Van Floyd, Lynn Center.
