UXBRIDGE Mr. Sherley S. Ashcraft, 84, of North Main St. died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 in Lydia Taft House, Uxbridge. He was the husband of Imogene F. (Hart) Ashcraft who died in 1999.
Mr. Ashcraft was a crane operator for the Wyman Gordon Co. in Grafton for 17 years retiring in 1985. He had previously been employed as an auto-mechanic for Papetti Motors and had worked at John DeHaan Pontiac both in Whitinsville. He also worked at the Wacantuck Mills in Uxbridge. Mr. Ashcraft served in the US Army Medical Corps during WWII.
Mr. Ashcraft was born November 21, 1922 in Adrian, WV the son of Wade and Lucy (Howell) Ashcraft. He attended schools in Buckhannon, WV. Mr. Ashcraft spent his early years in Adrian, WV and moved to Uxbridge in 1946. He was an avid freshwater and deep sea fisherman who enjoyed traveling, hunting, and outdoor work around his home. He also enjoyed his many reunions with the 55th Army Hospital.
Mr. Ashcraft is survived by four sons; Donald W. Ashcraft, Allan E. Ashcraft, Carl B. Ashcraft and Woodrow L. Ashcraft all of Uxbridge; one daughter; Mary E. Orendorff of Framingham; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will be private in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Uxbridge. There are no public calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, Uxbridge.
