Mr. Abel Thomas Ashby, Sr., 84, husband of Nancy Bull Ashby and a fifty year resident of Onancock, VA, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA. Born on November 28, 1922 at Stewart's Wharf, Exmore, VA, he was the son of the late Benjamin Colonna Ashby and Margie Ward Ashby. He was retired from NASA; and a member of Market Street United Methodist Church, Central Shore Lions Club, Tasley VFW Post 2296, American Legion, and a charter member of the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club. Mr. Ashby served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Other than his wife, survivors include a daughter, Susan Ashby Mergler and husband Andy of Edgewater, MD; a son, A.T. Ashby and wife Sharon of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Ashlee and Drew Mergler and Trey Ashby; one niece and three nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Page Ashby and Coby Ashby. Funeral services conducted from the graveside at the Belle Haven Cemetery on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Charles A. Shumate and the Rev. Albert L. Crockett officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, C/O Mr. Tom Rienerth, 12 King Street, Onancock, VA; Onancock Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
