Doug Ashby, son of Regina Patrick Dowdy of Dexter and Alan Ashby of Bernie, was born on Jan. 2, 1987, at Sikeston and died at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on April 9, 2003 at the age of 16. Doug attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter, was a sophomore at Dexter Senior High School where he was a member of F.F.A. and F.C.A. He was employed at Pizza Hut Restaurant in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Regina and Richard Dowdy of Dexter; his father Alan Ashby of Bernie; one sister, Kimberly Dawn Ashby of Dexter; one half-sister, Michelle O'Connor of Valley Park; one step-brother, William Richard Dowdy of Bloomfield; two step-sisters, Kimberly Elaine Powers and Dawn Marie Hastings of Appomattox, Va; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Patrick of East Prairie; his paternal grandmother, Georgia Ashby of Bernie. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert H. Patrick and by his paternal grandfather, Morris Edwin Ashby. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2003. Funeral Services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel, Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Wells and Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
