LOS ANGELES lost one of its most outstanding religious and cultural leaders in the passing Dec. 25 of Mrs. Lula Asbury, one of the phounders of St. Phillip's Episcopal church and an active member of the Mother's and Sponsor's club of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Mrs. Asbury, the mother of Mr and Mrs. Bruce Bayless and Mr. and Mrs. William E. Bell, was a native of Atlanta, GA. She was the wife of the late Dr. James Asbury and the mother of five children, Ethel, Edward, Bernard, Hallie and Elizabeth. A resident of Los Angeles since 1892, she was instrumental in the establishment of the first Episcopal church where under Father Cleghorn in the neighborhood ball at 9th and Wilson streets. One of Mrs. Asbury's primary interests was the Delta Sigma Theta Mothers and Sponsors club to which she contributed the beautiful club creed. Besides her immediate family, Mrs. Asbury leaves to mourn her lost are her cousins, the Stovall family and a host of friends.
