Abraham W. Artman, aged 79, one of the best known and well-liked pioneer citizens of Parks township, Armstrong County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. David E. Heckman,236 Whittier St., Vandergrift, at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after a lingering illness.

Mr. Artman was born in Armstrong County on May 18, 1849, and was the son of the late John and Sarah Wagle Artman. He was educated in the elementary schools and spent his entire life in Kiski and Parks township of the county in which he was born. He has lived in Parks township for a number of years.

He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Highfields, Parks township, for more than sixty years. He was a faithful worker of the same and always attended when his health permitted.

Mr. Artman is survived by the following children: Mrs. David E. (Sarah) Heckman, Mrs Oliver J. ( )Walker, both of Vandergrift; Mrs Taylor (Iva) Shellhammer, Ashtabula, Ohio; and one son, Stacy Artman, Zanesville, Ohio; Two sisters, Mrs. N.F. (Emma)Altman, Parks township; and Mrs. John (Hallie) Thomas, Murraysville: two brothers, George Artman of Murraysville and James Artman of Leechburg, also survive. Also 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the home of Mr. and Mrs. David E. Heckman on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. George J. Baisler, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Highfield. He will be assisted by the Rev. Charles O. Frank, pastor of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Vandergrift. Burial will be made in the Vandergrift cemetery.
