WINSTON-SALEM - Avalena Lunn Artis departed this life on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 following a period of illness. She was born in Florence, SC to the late Early Lunn and Earlene Davis Lunn on March 28, 1955. Mrs. Artis graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1973 and received an associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Forsyth Technical Community College. She was employed with ABCD Child Development (1977-1998) and WFU Baptist Childcare Center (1991-2007). Mrs. Artis was a faithful member of Redbank Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and choir member. She leaves behind to cherish fond memories Willie Frank Artis, her husband of 20 years, and her son, Daniel Artis, both of the home;her mother, Earlene D. Lunn;three sisters;a brother;mother-in-law, Barbara Artis (Edward) Woodard;father-in-law, Willie Frank (Mattie) Artis, Sr.;two sisters-in-law;three brothers-in-law;a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including two devoted friends, Tammy Harris and Sachyal Davis. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel L. Scott and Cheryl A. Bethea. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Red Bank Baptist Church with interment immediately following in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the services at 2:00 p.m. at the church. (Clark S. Brown and Sons)
