James J. Arnzen, 70, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born March 21, 1935, in Leopold, Mo., son of William and Julia Van De Ven Arnzen. He and Charlene Struwe were married April 26, 1958, at St. Ambrose Church in Chaffee, Mo.

Arnzen was president of James Arnzen Construction Co. from 1965 to 1996.

He was a member of and usher at St. Mary's Cathedral. He was a member and president of Cape Pilots Club, charter member and past president of Southeast Missouri Builders Association, president of Evening Optimist Club, lieutenant governor of East Missouri District Optimists, treasurer and board member of Chamber of Commerce, and served on the city of Cape Girardeau Board of Examiners from 1991 to 1996.

Arnzen served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Alicia Martinec of Fort Worth, Texas; four brothers, Harold Arnzen of Jackson, Richard Arnzen of Kelso, Mo., Steve Arnzen of Cape Girardeau, Virgil Arnzen of Benton, Mo.; two sisters, Judy Mayfield of Scopus, Mo., Patti Ricketts of Marble Hill, Mo.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
