BETTY LOU IVY - Teacher and Salon Manager
Betty Lou Ivy, 68, a substitute teacher and former hair salon manager, died May 28 at Prince William Hospital of internal injuries suffered in a car accident in Manassas the day before.
Authorities reported that Mrs. Ivy was riding in a car driven by her companion, Michael Clark, on Sudley Road near Lee Highway when it collided with a car that crossed the center line. Clark was treated and released. The driver of the other car was charged with reckless driving.
Mrs. Ivy, who lived in Catharpin, was a graduate of the University of Houston in her native Houston. She was a substitute teacher in Winter Park, Fla., before moving to Northern Virginia in 1973. She managed the Hair Country Salon in Arlington until the mid-1980s. She also was a substitute teacher at Langley High School and in Prince William County schools.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Haymarket, the Texas Society and the University of Houston Alumni Association.
Her marriage to Edward Weber Ivy Sr. ended in divorce.
In addition to her companion, of Catharpin, survivors include two sons, E. Weber Ivy Jr. of Alexandria and Christopher G. Ivy of Maitland, Fla.; and her brother, Billy Gene Arnold, and stepmother, Nancy Arnold, both of Houston.
