Son of Henry Arning and his wife the former Anna Brockschmidt. Born 4 July 1901 in Quincy Illinois.

Began at age 15 as a courier for Quincy Illinois newspapers The Herald and The Journal. The two newspapers shared Associated Press wire releases. His job was to carry Associated Press copy between the offices.

After graduating high school Mr. Arning studied at Gem City Business college in Quincy Illinois.

He worked for Otis Elevator company and then Hyman and Brothers trucking lines.

Married Lela M. [?], 19 June 1925 in Hannibal Missouri. Divorced in 1940.

Married the widow Mrs. Lillian Mester, 4 July 1941 at St. Anthony church in St. Louis Missouri.

Served in the U. S. military during World War II. Belonged to the American Legion.

He later moved to St. Louis Missouri. He worked as an adjuster for McNamara Trucking in St. Louis and in Detroit Michigan. Belonged to the Eagles.

Alfred Bernard Arning passed away 12 December 1962 at a Quincy Illinois hospital.

His second wife Lillian Arning predeceased him, 9 October 1961.

Surviving to mourn were: brothers Urban Arning and Louis Arning; a sister, Margaret, Mrs. Leo Averbeck; stepson Dale Mester and stepdaughter Mrs. Betty Martin; and five grandchildren.

Reverend Philip Johnson presided over the funeral held at St. Mary Catholic church and at graveside services at Calvary cemetery in Quincy Illinois.
