Edwin James Arnell

April 10, 1916 – July 17, 2011
ROY – Edwin gave up his earthly existence early Sunday morning July 17th to join his eternal companion, Cleora, who passed away September 15, 2008 after 67 years of marriage.

Edwin was born April 10, 1916 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Jay Cain Arnell and Wilhelmina Warman. He was the second of five children. At an early age he moved with his family to South Dakota and in 1936 moved to Logan, Utah.

Edwin met his sweetheart Cleora Durant in Logan and married her on July 26, 1941. He later joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple on their 15th wedding anniversary, July 26, 1956. They lived in Roy most of their married lives and were privileged to raise three boys.

Edwin worked at the Ogden Arsenal and later transferred to Hill Air Force Base. He retired in 1973 after 31 years. Edwin was in the Army and served his country during WWII for three years in the South Pacific and took part in the invasion of Okinawa.

He had many Stake and Ward callings and with his wife served three missions. They also served as ordinance workers for many years in the Ogden Temple. Edwin loved to hunt, fish and to go camping with his family and with his friends in the Good Sam's Club. They had to give up camping when his wife suffered a crippling stroke in 2001.

Edwin is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Jay W. (Doris), Jack D. (Christine) and a sister, Marilyn Greathouse (Orville).

Edwin is survived by one brother, Robert Arnell (Belva) in Stockson, CA; and his three boys: Lon (Connie, deceased) North Ogden, Jerel (Eileen) North Ogden, and Clay (Launa) Layton. Also 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Edwin was a resident of the George E. Wahlen Veterans home for the past ten months. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff for their attentive care in Edwin's behalf.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Roy 4th Ward Chapel, 5300 South 2100 West, Roy, Utah.
