Funeral services for "Skip" Edwin Prescott Armstrong, Jr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014, in Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. B. David Brooks and Rev. Richard Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.

A Christian wake will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday at the church from 12:00 p.m. until time of service.

"Skip" Edwin Prescott Armstrong, Jr., 60, of Alexandria passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Grace Home of CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edwin "Eddie" Prescott Armstrong, Sr.

Skip recently retired after 41 years of service with AT&T.

Above all else, Skip was a family man. His love for his wife and four children were first, at all costs. He would fiercely protect them in his own strong, confident way, even if his family would be left feeling embarrassed by his unorthodox approach. Sacrificing Skip's own needs, he lived his life to provide, care and be there for them no matter what.

Skip graduated Alexandria Senior High School in 1971 and then attended Louisiana Tech on a baseball scholarship, where he pitched and played third base. His love of baseball began at an early age and continued throughout his entire life. Skip took his passion of playing the game and poured his heart into coaching, especially after his son was born. Skip was highly involved in youth baseball as a Dixie Youth Baseball board member. Although he began coaching young boys for many years, Skip eventually was drawn to teach hitting lessons to young girls who also shared the love of the game. Not only was he an avid baseball fan, but he was also involved in hunting and fishing. Skip spent much time during hunting season at the family camp in Tensas with his father, brother, and other family members where many memories were made. For years he fished recreationally and semi-professionally for various sponsors, including Skeeter. Skip had a reputation for winning Big Bass in tournaments, as well as always knowing where to find the fish. He never lost his love of fishing or spending time on the lake watching the sunset.

The family would like to thank Dr. Saccaro, Dr. Bledsoe, Dr. Letsinger and the staff of Grace Home of Alexandria; along with Kasey Gill and Jacy Goodman, for their attentiveness, care and compassion. We thank God for these angels He has placed in our lives during this difficult and painful time.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials are made to any branch of Southern Heritage Bank of Alexandria in Skip's honor, to the Susan Armstrong Children's Fund, for Allie's and Aaron's education.
