Roberta Elizabeth Archer Adkins

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother at age 97 on July 24, 2009.

She was born Roberta Elizabeth Archer, the second child of Charles E. Archer and Eva McLain Archer on March 15, 1912, in Glendale, W.Va.

Roberta graduated from Williamstown High School and from Marshall University. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher from 1931-1975, touching the lives of students spanning four generations.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Ernest P. Adkins; and a sister, Wanda Archer.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Mahaney; a daughter, Judith Segall and her husband, Jay; and a son, Stephen Adkins and his wife, Suzanne. She will be sadly missed by her five grandchildren, Rabbi Jeffery Segall, Stephanie Camozzi, Suzanne Taylor, Melissa Musgrave and Stephen Adkins II; and seven great-grandchildren.

Roberta was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown and Girls Friendly Class.

We wish to thank Ernest and Mary Phillips for their care and support for our Mother and to her faithful companion, "Dolly."

Upon Mother's request, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel.
