Soldier's Parents Get Burial Word.
PFC Joseph A. Arata, 20, who was killed in action near Los Banos, Luzon island, has been buried in an army cemetery near Manila with full military honors, his commanding officer informed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Arata, 3040 S. E. Division Street. On March 25, he was hit by a rifle shot from a concealed position while cleaning out a cave the enemy was holding. He died instantly, the officer wrote.
Pvt. Arata had been overseas since February, 1944, and in the army since August, 1943. A graduate of St. Philip's school, he attended Benson High School. He worked for the Southern Pacific railroad company until induction.
He is survived by the parents and two sisters, Mrs. John Eckhardt, at the family home, and Mrs. Frances DuPont, 4335 S. E. Hawthorne Street.
