Carroll Blaine Appleton recieved his education in Edgewood, Iowa, graduating in 1930. After serving in the Marine Corps in 1942 he attended Coe College. In June 1956 he graduated from the Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois.
He was married to Hattie Eva Schrunk on June 21, 1942 at St. Paul Lutheran Parlor, Long Beach, California.
In 1957 he purchased the Appleton Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa and operated it for 21 years.
He was a member of Avalon Chapter No. 434, Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Avalon Lodge no. 606 A.F. & A.M., Shriners, Scottish Rite, Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters and the Iowa Funeral Directors Association.
He retired to Guttenberg with his wife in 1978.
