He was a pioneer race-car driver, a founder of the sport.

Famous industrialist. He was one of the first automobile manufacturers in the world.

- 607,116 on July 12, 1898 for a "Motor-Vehicle", with Elwood Haynes.
- D48,359 on January 4, 1916 for a "Design for an Automobile-Body" (Assignor to "Apperson Brothers Automobile Company", of Kokomo, Indiana.)
