Funeral Mass for Doris E. Hein, 78, of Reardan, took place Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Davenport, with Father Pat MacMahon officiating. Concluding service and interment followed at Reardan Cemetery. Rosary service was Thursday, Oct. 21, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Reardan. Mrs. Hein died Oct. 18 in Spokane. Born July 4, 1932, in Reardan to Anton and Meta Appel, she grew up in the Waukon area and attended school in Edwall, graduating in 1950 from Edwall High School, where she was senior class president. She married James (Jim) Hein on Oct. 21, 1950, in Cheney, and will be remembered as a devoted farm wife and mother for 60 years. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Reardan and Chapter N PEO for 35 years, serving as chapter president in 1989 and serving two years on the Washington state PEO financial committee. She also was active in the Lincoln County Republican Party. She worked in the Lincoln County Treasurer's Office for 32 years, serving 16 years as county treasurer, retiring in 1998. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and spending time at her cabin on Lake Coeur d' Alene, collecting cookbooks, apple décor and Christmas bells. Preceding her in death were her son Doug Hein, grandson Marcus Baye, sister Florence Krug and her parents. Besides her husband, she leaves three children, Janée and Steve Wells of Burnsville, Minn., Darrell (Dude) and Sherri Hein of San Antonio, Texas, and Diane and Jim Baye of Reardan; a daughter in law, Kathie Hein of Reardan; nine grandchildren, Tiffany (Ryan) Clouse, Natalie (Joe) McGrath, Bryan and Kevin Wells, Andrew (Amanda) Hein, Joseph and Noah Hein, and Ryan and Mandee Baye; a great-grandson, A.J. Hein; a sister, Ethel Krug of Othello; and numerous nieces and nephews.
